About Us and Maim Haim
Meet The Founders
Maim Haim was born from one of the most painful chapters in Israel's history.
We are Arie and Carolina Guiloff, the founders of Maim Haim. We made Aliyah from Chile in 2020, fulfilling their dream of building a life in Israel and serving Am Yisrael. Our journey had already been shaped by hospitality and connection—from hosting Israeli soldiers traveling the world after their army service in the small town of Pucón in southern Chile, to opening a guest house in Tzfat. We could never have imagined that, just a few years later, those same doors would welcome soldiers serving during the war, and eventually become the birthplace of healing retreats for Am Yisrael.
After the events of October 7, 2023, our guest house in Tzfat suddenly stood empty. Like so many others, our lives changed overnight. Instead of welcoming travelers, we opened our doors to soldiers serving in the war.
As we witnessed the heartbreak unfolding around us—the collective trauma, the young soldiers who never returned home, the mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, and children carrying unimaginable loss—we felt that the entire nation was grieving together.
Our sages teach that Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh Bazeh—all of Israel is responsible for one another. And in those difficult days, we felt deeply what it means to be Am Echad, K'Ish Echad—one people, with one heart.
We realized that while our nation was showing extraordinary physical courage, there was also a profound need for emotional, spiritual, and communal healing.
We asked ourselves:
How can we help bring healing to Am Yisrael?
The answer became Maim Haim.
We began by organizing a retreat for men, welcoming civilians alongside soldiers returning from the front lines in Gaza. Shortly afterward came our first women's retreat. We witnessed strangers become brothers and sisters, tears transform into hope, music became prayer, and deep conversations give birth to lasting friendships.
What we thought would be a single response to a moment of crisis revealed something much greater. People were longing for places where they could breathe again. Where they could reconnect with their neshama. Where they could remember they were not alone. Since then, Maim Haim has continued to grow, creating retreats that offer healing, Torah, music, creativity, nature, and genuine community.
Our mission remains the same today as it was in those first difficult months:
To help bring healing to every neshama, strengthen the unity of Am Yisrael, and create spaces where living waters can continue to flow.
